Christ’s Golden Rule

Here’s Dr. Jerry Newcombe’s Sunday school class in South Florida (www.newpres.org) courtesy of Tim Savage on the subject of Jesus’s Golden Rule: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. For this sums up the law and the prophets (Matthew 7:12).

The photo by Jerry Newcombe is of an archway at Christ Church, Alexandria, the church of George Washington for the last ten years of his life. (Note: the photo has been re-stylized by photos.google.com). In that church, they have (as is customary for the Anglican churches of George Washington, e.g., St. Paul’s Chapel in NYC; Bruton Parish in Colonial Williamsburg, VA; Pohick Church in Lorton, VA; Christ Church in Philadelphia; Trinity Episcopal Church in Newport, RI) a “reredos”—that is, writing on the walls. Most of the time the reredos includes the Apostles’ Creed, the Lord’s Prayer, and the Ten Commandments. In the case of Christ Church in Alexandria, the reredos also includes Matthew 7:12.
