Topic: America’s Christian heritage

The colonial pulpit, especially in New England, played a pivotal role in encouraging independence from Britain. For example, the pastors’ sermons, especially just before election day, informed the people about what was happening politically and what they, as faithful Christians, should do about it. 19th century author John Wingate Thornton once observed, “To the Pulpit, the Puritan Pulpit, we owe the moral force which won our independence.” Dr. Peter Lillback, founder/president of Providence Forum, co-wrote a book with Jerry Newcombe that became a best-seller, George Washington’s Sacred Fire. Dr. Peter Lillback joins Jerry Newcombe for another in the series of Lillback-Newcombe Conversations on America’s Judeo-Christian roots. This particular episode focuses on the vital role of the colonial pulpit in helping to found America. www.providenceforum.org
