We KNOW Christ is coming, but when?

New book provides roadmap to sort out

confusing, conflicting views

Millennium fever is in the air.
Americans by-and-large believe in the Second Coming. Gallup polls have found that 6 in 10 Americans are expecting Jesus to return.
Already, millions in our culture, Christian and non-Christian, are curious as to what the turn of the millennium means. Is the end of the world at hand? Are these the last days, as we hear quite often?
What can we know for sure about His return? Is there common ground between the various views of the return of Christ?

In Coming Again, Jerry Newcombe provides a roadmap that clarifies who believes what and why. This book dares to deal objectively with questions such as:
Is it possible that much of what Jesus predicted in Matthew 24, Mark 13, and Luke 21 has already been fulfilled (a view widely held for centuries)? See Chapters 10-13.
Will a new temple be built in Jerusalem to fulfill prophecy?
See Chapters 12, 19.
Was prophetic Scripture intended to be taken literally?

See Chapters 6-8.
Is the book of Revelation a chronology of the future? See Chapter 8.
Who says there’s a gap between Daniel’s 69th and 70th week?

See Chapter 15.
Why do some say the rapture occurs before the Last Day?

See Chapter 16.
•What does the Bible say about the millennium? See Chapter 14.
Did you know that virtually every generation of Christians, including our own, has believed theirs was the last generation? See Chapter 21 for a look at failed predictions.

Not only does Coming Again objectively guide you through the confusing opinions on the return of Christ, it provides much-needed HISTORICAL perspective that it is too often lacking in modern treatments of the subject. Coming Again also hits home with many practical applications and is recommended by D. James Kennedy. George Gallup, Jr. found it “wonderful,” “terrific,” “fascinating.”

Coming Again, $12.99. 364 pages. Contains subject/author index and Scripture index. Published by ChariotVictor of Colorado Springs (a division of Cook Communications).

Review of COMING AGAIN by Jerry Newcombe
ChariotVictor Publishers, 1999

Most books on the end times, the apocalypse and eschatology, promote one of the major points of view towards this issue. They are either premillennial, postmillennial or amillennial. Furthermore, within the pre-millennial camp are historic pre-mil, pre-trib, post-trib, and mid-trib. Regrettably, each one thinks the other one is wrong. Noting that the early church did not make eschatology a necessary creedal affirmation, Jerry Newcombe has written the most important book on this argumentative issue, called COMING AGAIN BUT WHEN?
Jerry Newcombe is senior TV producer for The Coral Ridge Hour. He has co-authored books with D. James Kennedy, including the best-selling WHAT IF JESUS HAD NEVER BEEN BORN, and is the author-editor of THE MORAL OF THE STORY: TIMELESS TALES TO CHERISH AND SHARE. He and his family live in Florida.

With great humility and brilliant writing, Mr. Newcombe examines each point of view in depth and compares each point of view. This is not one of those books that just lines up the other points of view and then knocks them down like strawmen. Instead, Mr. Newcombe respects the different perspectives and lets the reader be the judge.

Mr. Newcombe quotes the major authorities including the church fathers and even early Roman historians. In fact, PART THREE on the writings of the early historians about this important issue is worth the price of the whole book.
Dr. James Kennedy states, "All of history is moving toward its inevitable climax - the return of Christ. How will it be? How will He come? Well-meaning Christians answer that question in different ways. To get a good understanding of those various opinions and the consequences that flow out of those opinions, I recommend you read COMING AGAIN."

Because I often receive books to review (and have read as many as five in one morning), COMING AGAIN BUT WHEN? is so fascinating that I took considerable time reading it and even read many passages to my children. Furthermore, I have dog eared many pages in this book and plan to consult it often as a reference.

Reading this book will help even those who have made up their minds. It is highly recommended. In fact, it may be one of the most important books you read on a very controversial subject.

Finally, at the end, Mr. Newcombe comes to a very profound conclusion that, whatever our eschatology, we need to be ready day by day by accepting Jesus as our Lord and Savior and living our lives according to His will.
