America has amnesia. We have
forgotten our Christian roots. Yet President Woodrow Wilson said that a
nation that doesn't know what it was yesterday does not what it is today,
nor what it is trying to do. George Orwell said, He who controls the past
controls the future. Despite what modern secularists say, the United States
of America has a Christian foundation. Until the Declaration of Independence
is somehow made null and void, America will always be one nation under
God. That does not mean we have always acted Christianly. Of course not.
But you can read the facts of history for yourself in the new volume: The
Book That Made America by Jerry Newcombe.
The Book
That Made America is a definitive volume on the Christian roots of
our nation. The Bible is the book that made America; all that is positive
in our foundation can be traced back to the Scriptures. Thankfully, the
book has been endorsed by many Christian leaders, including those quite
knowledgeable about our Christian roots. Here are excerpts of some of the
comments on The Book That Made America:
*Dr. Peter Lillback, President
of The Providence Forum, said, “Dr. Jerry Newcombe combines accurate scholarship,
careful analysis with engaging writing. This arsenal of historic wisdom
from our Judeo-Christian heritage should be in your library.”
*Radio talk show host Kerby
Anderson: “Read this book to learn the history our nation has forgotten.”
*Dr. Paul Jehle, executive
director of The Plymouth Rock Foundation: “Jerry has done a service for
Americans by bringing the Bible back into historical focus at a time when
it is most needed today.”
*Author/speaker William
J. Federer: “In The Book That Made America, Jerry Newcombe quickly
cuts through the fog of agenda driven rhetoric to give a brilliant and
unbiased examination of what made America unique among the nations of the
world.”
*Jennifer Kennedy Cassidy
of Coral Ridge Ministries: “I pray that God may use this book to help awaken
a new generation of Americans to learn our true history and rediscover
what it is that made America great in the first place.”
*Dr. Charles Hull Wolfe,
retired historian: “No matter what books you now own about our Christian
history, I encourage you to get this one!”
*Bestselling author Ann
Coulter: “Say that America is a Christian nation and you’ll be brought
up on hate crime charges – or at least thought an ignoramus. But what are
the facts of history? The Book That Made America demonstrates that
there once was a Book even more integral to this nation than Al Gore’s
Earth
in the Balance. I recommend Dr. Newcombe’s book highly!”
The Book That Made America
is dedicated to the memory of Dr. D. James Kennedy, with whom Jerry had
the privilege of co-writing fourteen books.

PRESENCE OF A HIDDEN GOD
***
Dr. D. James Kennedy, my pastor, my boss, my mentor, has now gone to
glory. Picture him up in heaven, talking to Jesus Christ face to face!
Here is what he himself said about his future home in heaven:
“Now, I know that someday I am going to come to what some people will
say is the end of this life. They will probably put me in a box and roll
me right down here in front of the church, and some people will gather
around, and a few people will cry. But I have told them not to do that
because I don’t want them to cry. I want them to begin the service with
the Doxology and end with the Hallelujah chorus, because I am not going
to be there, and I am not going to be dead. I will be more alive than I
have ever been in my life, and I will be looking down upon you poor people
who are still in the land of dying and have not yet joined me in the land
of the living. And I will be alive forevermore, in greater health and vitality
and joy than ever, ever, I or anyone has known before.”

New Host Debuts on Coral Ridge Hour
[From the November 2007 Impact Newsletter of Coral Ridge Ministries
(by John Aman and Andrew Scott)]
Jerry Newcombe,
co-author with Dr. D. James Kennedy of 11 books, debuts November 4 as the
new host of The Coral Ridge Hour. He replaces Dr. Frank Wright, president
of the National
Religious Broadcasters who did a superb job as a stand-in host of the
program this year.
Not a Newcomer
Newcombe is no freshman
to The Coral Ridge Hour scene. For the past 10 years, he has served as
the
Senior Producer of the award-winning program. "I’m very excited about
the new responsibilities,"
Newcombe said. "I enjoy interviewing and being interviewed. I pray
God will make me worthy to
promote the message of Jesus Christ and the whole counsel of God as
faithfully as I can." Newcombe’s on-air role will be to introduce The Coral
Ridge Hour features which air after Dr. Kennedy’s sermons, and to help
close the program. Newcombe joined Coral Ridge Ministries in
1985 as a researcher and
writer, and then worked his way into a TV production role two years later.
Among the 11 books he has co-authored with Dr. Kennedy, he counts What
If Jesus Had Never Been
Born? his favorite. Newcombe has also produced or co-produced
more than 50 documentaries for The Coral Ridge Hour, including Who
Is This Jesus?, The Da Vinci Delusion, and Darwin’s Deadly Legacy.
Of his new role, Newcombe said he doesn’t see himself as replacing Dr.
Kennedy. "No one could replace him. I see myself as being privileged to
present his classic, timeless truths to the viewers. That includes a new
generation of viewers who are not yet familiar with his teaching."

Are we still "One Nation Under God"? Liberal judges don't think so.
Nor do many college and
law school professors and some members of the media. But what do the
facts
of history show?

This book sets the record straight: One Nation Under God: Ten Things
Every Christian Should Know About the Founding of America. This book
is written by Dr. David C. Gibbs, Jr., the founder and president of the
Christian Law Association (Seminole, FL), and by Jerry Newcombe, the senior
producer of the award-winning The Coral Ridge Hour. The 9th Circuit
Court of Appeals has ruled in favor of "state-sanctioned atheism" by declaring
the phrase "under God" in our Pledge of Allegiance unconstitutional (June
28, 2002 and February 28, 2003). Read the history surrounding the first
amendment and it's very clear that the founders intended that we would
never establish a national state-church, like they have in England or other
countries in Europe, from which the original settlers fled. But the founders
clearly intended that religion and morality would help under gird the American
experience. As George Washington said in his Farewell Address, religion
and morality are indispensable supports of our republic. For more details
on how we are One Nation Under God, click here.
To order the book ($10), click here.
This book is quoted by David Limbaugh in his best-selling, Persecution.
Did you know that if you go to church regularly and you're white, you'll
add on average seven years to your life. If you're African-American and
you attend church regularly, you'll add on average fourteen years to your
life. Did you know that a review of 750 studies on the impact of faith
on a variety of issues (crime, drug-use, suicide, etc.) found BENEFICIAL
results to faith / religious commitment in 85% of the cases. About 12-13%
found no significant difference. And 2-3% found a negative impact from
faith. This is based on the research of University of Pennsylvania professor,
Byron Johnson, who has now left to Baylor (after working for a while at
Princeton). (See especially his report, "Objective Hope.").

We are heirs to a great heritage
We are heirs to a great Judeo-Christian heritage. But, unfortunately,
the average American today is unaware of how Christianity and the Bible
have positively shaped our most endearing institutions. Even many Christians
today are unaware of how Christianity has positively impacted life on earth.
*Christ gave us the Good
Samaritan ethic;
*Through His followers, the
Ten Commandments were spread around the world;
*He is the author of the
golden rule;
*The American republic (the
model nation for 200 years now) was based on the Bible.
Example after example can be found in two books I co-wrote with Dr.
D. James Kennedy: What If Jesus Had Never
Been Born? and What If The Bible Had Never
Been Written?
Note: What If Jesus has now been translated into Spanish, Indonesian,
and Korean. It is in the process of being translated into Chinese, as is
What
If the Bible.
Author and former Yale professor
William Lyons Phelps sums it up: "Our civilization is founded upon the
Bible. More of our ideas, our wisdom, our philosophy, our literature, our
art, our ideals come from the Bible than from all other books combined."

that What If Jesus Had Never Been Born? can provide helpful background
information for those wanting to know about Christ's impact on our world.***

What if Jesus had never been
born? What if the influence of Jesus and His followers had never been brought
to bear on the world? Life in every area of human existence would be immeasurably
more harsh, bleak, and barren. That is the verdict of Dr. Kennedy’s popular
book (with co-author Jerry Newcombe), What If Jesus Had Never Been Born?,

aired on The Coral Ridge Hour. Videotapes are available for $25.00

*The Washington Times (Dec. 26. 2001) mentioned the Kennedy-Newcombe
book, What If Jesus Had Never Been Born? Julia Duin writes:
Presbyterian authors the
Rev. D. James Kennedy and Jerry Newcombe say in their book "What if Jesus
Had Never Been Born?" that had the event never happened, the "gaping hole"
in civilization "would be a canyon about the size of a continent."
Christianity's immediate
effects were to bring an end to infant exposure (where unwanted children
were left out in the elements to freeze or die of thirst), gladiator contests,
cannibalism and abortion, they write....
"We live in a culture that
is so often denigrating Christianity and Christian morals," Mr. Newcombe
says. "Many people in our culture would eschew bigotry of any kind, but
at the same time they are anti-Christian. You see a lot of Christian-bashing
in movies, TV and court rulings. "The goal of our book was to say Christianity
gave the world a lot more than the Inquisition and the Crusades."
For instance, the International
Red Cross was founded in the 19th century by a Swiss evangelical Christian
for "the love of Jesus Christ," he says. "Mother Teresa would not have
been who she was without Jesus Christ."
Had Christianity never happened,
the world might look like pre-20th-century China, he said. Because Christianity
is based on individual choice, political systems with Christian underpinnings
tend to be democratic, he says. But China has no history of democracy in
its 5,000 years.
"Democracy allows people
to govern themselves," he says. "The congregational form of church government
was extremely important in the Massachusetts Bay colony. So was the presbyterian
form of government, where elders govern. Some have said the U.S. government
is patterned much like the Presbyterian Church."

Just Who Is Rewriting History?
By Jerry Newcombe, co-author of George Washington’s Sacred Fire
Glenn Beck has recently
raved about a book on the faith of George Washington, helping to propel
the book to #1 on Amazon for six days in a row. MediaMatters, which is
funded by George Soros, accuses this book of being "revisionist history."
But just who is rewriting history?
The book in
question is near and dear to my heart, because I co-wrote it. The chief
author of George Washington’s Sacred Fire is Dr. Peter Lillback,
president of Westminster Theological Seminary, who researched the subject
for some 20 years before we met. We began to collaborate in late 2004,
and finished the book in the early summer of 2006. The late Dr. D. James
Kennedy launched the book through his television and radio outreach, Coral
Ridge Ministries, where I have worked for 25 years now.
George Washington’s
Sacred Fire is not revisionist history. It’s a rebuttal to revisionist
history---all 1200 pages of it (700 pages of text with 500 pages of appendices
and endnotes). To read more, click here.
Jerry Newcombe, D.Min. is
senior producer and host of THE

has conducted thousands of broadcast interviews for television and radio.
