The father of our country, George Washington, said that religion and morality are indispensable supports to our nation’s political prosperity. This statement was not in some obscure letter buried in the archives suddenly to be rediscovered in some attic somewhere. He said this in his celebrated 1796 Farewell Address, a very important document in American history. George Washington’s Sacred Fire is a 2006 book that became a bestseller in 2010. It is by Dr. Peter Lillback (president of Westminster Theological Seminary) and Jerry Newcombe. It documents  beyond a reasonable doubt the Christian faith of America’s first president. Dr. Lillback and Newcombe have had many podcasts dealing with various aspects of Washington and his faith. In this particular segment, Dr. Peter Lillback and Jerry Newcombe discuss what Washington said about religion and morality in his Farewell Address.
