George Washington once said (and this is a paraphrase) that we can never hope to be a happy nation unless we imitate Christ. Dr. Peter Lillback is the President of Westminster Theological Seminary and also the Providence Forum. Dr. Lillback and Jerry Newcombe joined forces in 2003 to produce the 2006 book, George Washington’s Sacred Fire, which became a national best-seller because Glenn Beck promoted it vigorously in 2010. The book documents beyond a reasonable doubt that George Washington was not a Deist, but a Christian. Dr. Lillback and Dr. Newcombe have a series of discussions on Washington and his faith. This segment deals with the “Circular to the States” Commander-in-Chief Washington wrote to the Governors of the 13 states in June 1783, where he offers a prayer at the end, imploring them to emulate Jesus.
