Vocal Point-Larry Schlachter

Dr. Lawrence Schlachter is both a former neurosurgeon and an attorney. He discusses the problem of medical errors today and the issue of tort reform. He notes that the Institute of Medicine reported in 1999 that “as many as 98,000 patients were dying every year owing to avoidable medical error.” Dr. Schlacter, author of a new book called, Malpractice: A Neurosurgeon Reveals How Our Health-Care System Puts Patients at Risk, joins Jerry Newcombe on Vocal Point to discuss the need for “safety reform” over “tort reform.” www.larryschlacter.com
