Vocal Point-Bob Woodson

Topic: Defund the Police?

Bob Woodson is a civil rights activist with decades of experience. He thinks the whole idea of “defunding the police” is a terrible one—one that is promoted only by those who are already insulated from the threat of violence. Gallup Polls has found that 81 percent of African-Americans are opposed to defunding the police. Woodson writes, “This year, America’s cities have experienced near-record levels of crime and violence. Philadelphia homicides are nearing an all-time high. Atlanta’s and Houston’s homicide rates are the cities’ highest in more than a decade, and in Los Angeles, the number of murders has increased 25 percent in one year.” Bob Woodson, director of the Woodson Center and the author of Lessons From the Least of These: The Woodson Principles, joins Jerry Newcombe on Vocal Point to discuss helping the urban poor. www.woodsoncenter.org
