Dr. E. J. Hutchinson, a professor at Hillsdale College, wrote a piece called The Reformation and Liberal Learning.” 2017, of course, marks the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation. He writes, “One of those effects [of the Reformation] is sometimes thought to be a downgrading of the importance of liberal education, intellectual tradition, and the Western heritage of philosophical inquiry into the natural order via the use of reason.” But are such charges correct?
