Vocal Point-Stephanie Taub

Topic: Religious Liberty Cases Religious liberty has been under fire recently. We see this in some of the states that used the pandemic to discriminate against churches, while allowing other places to be open. But the Supreme Court has ruled on the side of the churches, 6-3 in a case out of California. The justices ruled that the churches can meet in person, given some restrictions. First Liberty Institute, founded by Kelly Shackelford, is the largest legal organization in the nation dedicated exclusively to defending religious freedom for all Americans. Stephanie Taub serves as senior counsel for First Liberty. Stephanie joins Jerry Newcombe on Vocal Point to discuss religious liberty cases, including the recent SCOTUS decision and also a decision out of Illinois. First Liberty writes, “After receiving a letter from First Liberty Institute, the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy  reversed its position and approved senior Marcail McBride’s request for a religious accommodation. Instead of completing the school’s Student Gender and Sexuality Program, the school offered her an alternate assignment.” In the Taub-Newcombe discussion, a previous decision was referenced, Hosanna-Tabor Evangelical Lutheran Church And School V. EEOC (2012). www.firstliberty.org
